A memoir should fit the person, not the other way around. Other providers offer different combinations and terms; our recommendation is StoryKeeper when your family wants more ways to tell the story and time to make it complete.

WRITE, RECORD OR CALL

Their best way to tell a story may change from day to day.

Start with the format that feels natural. StoryKeeper lets a memory begin as typed words, dictation, original audio or video. A simple phone-call recording and transcription service adds another route for parents or grandparents who prefer a conversation.

Storyworth supports writing and phone recording; additional voice tools vary by plan. Remento starts with audio or video and generates text to edit. My Life in a Book supports typing and voice-to-text. StoryKeeper brings more of those choices together in one memoir, while keeping original recordings connected to the printed chapter.

A thoughtful reflection can be written, an anecdote told in their own voice, and a story full of expression kept on video. Choose StoryKeeper when you want the way of creating to follow the person and the memory.

Write it. Record it. Tell it by phone. Keep the original memory close.

A BOOK YOU CAN READ, HEAR AND WATCH

A hardcover keepsake. A voice behind the words.

A beautiful book is only the beginning. StoryKeeper brings written chapters, family photographs and original recordings together in a full-color hardcover. Your family can read the memory, scan the QR code connected to it, and hear the voice or watch the video behind those words.

An eBook is included, and you can print up to 500 pages. Review the chapters, organize the photographs and approve the book before printing: the finished keepsake should feel like the person whose life it celebrates, not a collection of hurried answers.

StoryKeeper Classic includes 1 hardcover copy. StoryKeeper Plus includes 2 hardcover copies in total—one to keep and one to share. Both packages have no subscription and no completion deadline. Storyworth’s included books vary by Memoirs plan. Remento includes a hardcover credit, with its standard credit covering up to 200 pages. My Life in a Book advertises a full-color hardcover of up to 500 pages. StoryKeeper’s distinction is the full combination of formats, chapter-linked original recordings and no completion deadline—not a claim that no other provider offers a hardcover or QR codes.

NO TIME LIMIT

A lifetime of memories should not feel like homework.

Pay once, without a deadline to finish. Both StoryKeeper packages have no subscription, no renewal and no time limit. Take a break, gather more photographs, or return to a memory when someone is ready to tell it.

Storyworth and My Life in a Book include a year of questions; that alone does not mean existing stories disappear or an unfinished book must be abandoned. Their ongoing tools have their own terms. Remento includes a year of platform access, after which an active subscription is required for new recordings and editing; existing stories, recordings and QR playback remain accessible.

StoryKeeper’s advantage is the clear combination: more storytelling formats and no subscription needed to keep developing the memoir. Your family can choose the pace because the finished book matters more than a timetable.

No time limit. No subscription. On both StoryKeeper packages.

ORIGINAL MEMORIES, NOT JUST TRANSCRIPTS

Keep the photograph, the story and the way they told it.

A transcript cannot capture every laugh, pause or expression. StoryKeeper preserves original audio and video as part of the keepsake. Scan the QR code associated with a chapter to return to the actual recording behind that memory—not just a narration of the edited text.

Storyworth also preserves audio and includes a QR code on the last page of its Memoir books. That code opens the project, where authorised readers can find stories and listen to available recordings. StoryKeeper links the recording to the individual memory and also supports original video, making the connection between page and person more direct.

Add family photographs alongside the chapter, with photo colorization and enhancement available in Plus. The result is a richer record of a life: the picture you recognise, the story you can read, and the familiar voice or expression you can revisit.

Read the chapter. Scan its QR code. Hear or watch the original telling.

MAKE IT A FAMILY KEEPSAKE

Bring their memories together, without giving up control.

A life story is rarely remembered by just one person. A sibling has the photograph, a grandchild has the question, and someone else remembers the detail that makes everyone laugh. StoryKeeper lets you bring that help into the project through family contributions, prompts, photographs and feedback.

With Plus, unlimited contributors can help build a fuller picture of a life. The storyteller can choose what to share with invited collaborators or viewers, so asking for help does not have to mean opening every private reflection or unfinished chapter to everyone.

The other providers also support family participation in different ways. StoryKeeper is our recommendation for combining that help with selective sharing, original audio and video, direct writing and no annual subscription to keep creating. For a family book that needs to grow gradually, StoryKeeper combines collaboration with the freedom to write, record, revisit and finish without a subscription deadline.

From the StoryKeeper community

The stories are precious. So is the way they’re told.

Meet families who have captured the memories, photographs and voices they want to pass on. These are StoryKeeper experiences, not reviews of the other services.

We could capture stories in her own voice, then shape them together as a family.
